FEI Systems appoints Craig Steffen as CEO

Columbia, Md. – FEI Systems today announced that founder and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Jiao Gu, will transition to the role of Executive Chairman of the Board, and board member, Craig Steffen, has been promoted to serve as the company’s new Chief Executive Officer.

Dr. Gu founded FEI Systems in 1997 and has served as CEO for more than 20 years, growing the company from a small, niche I.T. firm to a preferred provider of comprehensive technology solutions that improve the delivery of health and human services. In 2022, he began to ponder how his legacy of success could carry on as his primary focus turns to other ventures and he directs his attention to new generations of family. He engaged Steffen as a board member and strategic advisor to the board in February of this year. Together, the two led an effort to develop a succession strategy that will serve the clients and employees of FEI well.

“I am confident Craig will honor FEI’s organizational culture and remain steadfast in our commitment to ensuring access to proper care and services for those who need it most,” said Gu. “And, while my tenure as CEO of FEI comes to a close, as Executive Chairman of the Board, I will continue to help guide the organization.”

Gu continued, “Building FEI with such a talented and creative team has been a joy and an incredible gift. I am grateful to those that have shared in this journey, and I look forward to seeing the company continue to grow.”

Steffen has 35 years of public and private benefits management experience developing enhanced outcomes through technology.

“I admire everything FEI stands for, and I look forward to working with Dr. Gu, the leadership team and everyone at FEI to build on the success FEI has had in product and service innovation and customer service excellence,” said Steffen.

Steffen officially stepped into his new role as CEO May 1.

“I am pleased to welcome Craig to the FEI executive team,” said Martina Wood, Chief Operating Officer “His experience, together with the foundation built by Dr. Gu’s remarkable vision, dedication and leadership undoubtedly position us for continued success.”

Once again this summer, from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend (Fri, May 30 to Fri, Aug. 29) you may shift up to four work hours into the early part of the week to get a jump start on the weekends and close your virtual office up to four hours early on Fridays. We encourage you to coordinate with your manager and your teams to take advantage of the summer schedule. We know you’re all responsible professionals, always focused on the needs of our clients and the business. We trust you’ll consider the potential for urgent matters that may arise and ensure we remain available and responsive to clients, be flexible in managing appropriate rotations when coverage is necessary and properly notify your clients and team members when you will be away. So don’t be afraid to take us up on this offer and head out early when you can.

Just a couple of things to remember as you record your time:

  • If your vacation or other time off plans include a Friday, the Flexible Friday benefit will not apply during that stretch of time (you will need to enter a full day of ProLeave for each day you are out, including the Friday). In other words, you must enter working time in the days immediately prior to the Friday to use the flex benefit.
  • When entering time, your pay period total hours will not necessarily align with the pay period required minimum hours (it could be fewer or more depending on the calendar days in the period). Don’t worry about that. Just make certain you are working and recording at least 40 hours per week.

We hope this bright perk helps you unwind, recharge and get your fair share of Vitamin D. If you have any questions, please send them to humanresources@feisystems.com.
